I am not a wanting half
or anything less
than a whole,
no old man in the moon
can tether me to anything,
much less anyone

hand me my knife —
second drawer to the left

it would seem that fate
needs severing

Note: This piece plays off the East Asian legend of the "red string of fate". Yue Xia Lao, a lunar god of marriage and matchmaking, is said to tie the ends of a red string to the ankles or fingers of two individuals destined to be lovers.
