Today I wrote a poem

Today I wrote a poem because the sun was out.
Nature's alarm clock.
I got my ass out of bed and crept to the sink.
I spit up blood, regular shit.

Today I wrote a poem because someone smiled at me.
It made me feel human again.
I didn’t know I still had a beating heart.
Probably still don’t, but it was nice to feel again.

Today I wrote a poem because I spilled my coffee.
It burned.
A lot.
It was everywhere.
Thank God for Bounty.

Today I wrote a poem because I heard your favorite song.
Every word reminded me of us.
It still stings
but I’m addicted to the pain.

Today I wrote a poem.
I wrote it to remember.
I wrote it to forget.

Today I wrote a poem.
So maybe I would stop thinking about you.
It didn’t work.
